4MOTION all-wheel drive for perfect cross-country mobility.

4MOTION all-wheel drive for perfect cross-country mobility.

Paved roads or rough terrain: the Amarok can cope with everything.

The best way to experience enhanced ride comfort is to drive the Amarok on rugged terrain. This is where it can really prove what it has to offer: state-of-the-art gearbox technology, superior off-road capabilities and optimal traction. However, the Amarok also has smooth and comfortable driving characteristics on tarmac roads. So no matter whether you are faced with water, snow, mud or extreme inclines, the Amarok will take you, your work materials and heavy equipment wherever you need to go quickly and safely.

Drive through difficult terrain and feel as though you are travelling in a saloon. There is a choice of three drive concepts:

  • 4x2 rear-wheel drive: the Amarok is equipped with rear-wheel drive as standard. Rear-wheel drive is ideal for all those who drive on paved roads and lanes. During acceleration, the vehicle weight is transferred backwards and the rear wheels have optimal road contact. In addition, rear-wheel drive is not subject to steering torque influences and has a smaller turning circle.
  • Selectable 4MOTION all-wheel drive including gear reduction ensures reliable traction on all road surfaces. It distributes 50% of engine output to each of the axles to improve forward motion – particularly in poor weather conditions.
  • Permanent 4MOTION all-wheel drive with Torsion differential can also easily cope with rough terrain. Drive power is distributed optimally to the wheels: the wheel with the best traction receives the most power. Due to better driving characteristics, permanent 4MOTION all-wheel drive also has advantages on paved roads – in particular, when combined with ESP which is standard on the Amarok.
Two types of springs are available for the Amarok depending on its intended use:
  • Comfort leaf springs are fitted as standard. Comfort leaf springs improve travel comfort, particularly at high speeds, and reduce tiresome driving noise at the same time (maximum payload of 850 kg).
  • Those who need a higher payload and drive on poorer surfaces can choose heavy-duty leaf springs as an option. The heavy-duty leaf springs have been specially designed for off-road assignments and payloads of up to one tonne.

Hill-climbing ability.

The Amarok can climb any mountain and carry your load at the same time: a trailer load of 2.8 tonnes is not even a problem on an uphill gradient of 12%. It can overcome hills with a gradient of 100% (45°) – even when carrying a payload of 1 tonne.

Approach and departure angle and wading depth.

Approach and departure angle and wading depth.

The Amarok can brave steep hills as well as deep puddles. It has an impressive approach angle of 28°, a departure angle of 23.6° (28° without bumper) and a wading depth of up to 500 mm.

Side slope angle.

The Amarok has an affinity for extremes and can even handle roads with a lateral tilt of approximately 50° 1), 2).

Ramp angle.

The Amarok can take you over sticks and stones safely – and over significantly bigger obstacles, too. With a ramp angle of 23° 1), even large tree trunks or rocks are no longer a problem.
1) These figures may vary depending on the equipment line and engine type.
2) The side slope angle on the left-hand side is 49.7° and 50.8° on the right-hand side.
